Founded in 1993, K1X is the in-house subsidiary of a German company called Kickz. Initially, the latter focused its business endeavors on selling rare and vintage kicks to European sneaker fiends and aficionados. The brand inevitably grew, and eventually developed their own line of sneakers and basketball themed clothing under the mantra “Nation of Hoop”.

K1X has been among the leading sellers in the European b-ball footwear market for the last half decade. They’ve been steadily signing authentic, raw, NYC ballplayers that are a true representative of the brand’s direction (most recently giving Bounce issue #7 cover man Corey “Homicide” Williams his own signature ride, the 187), and as of May will be dropping their flavors at limited Footlockers around the United States. So in short, k1x has done “good”, giving independent consumers another chance to grab reliable, performance driven models.

Undoubtedly their most iconic model has been the initial iteration of the Chiefglider. Since being released in 2002, the shoe has received a series of modifications, namely a sleeker overall profile, and an updated outsole for added traction. In ‘04, it made noise with a Bounce collaboration. Our online editor-in-chief and famed sneaker aficionado Bobbito Garcia helped develop the unique colorblocking, and oh how sweet it was!

With its burnt orange/pastel light blue/white with gold accents and a gum bottom, the Bounce Chiefglider is unlike any colorway that has ever been released for any shoe, ever. Outside of the sneaker’s unique nature, the combination of materials is purely astounding. The upper is comprised of striking patent, porous micro-mesh and a delightfully soft synthetic leather. Along with the peculiar terrycloth inner lining, the components in the equation add up to a performance killer that hyperactive guards and forwards would still adore playing in.

honestly, i think the shamrocks chiefgliders might’ve been the hottest ones of the whole pack!

  3. Jeremy Ripley says:

Doowop, can’t front on the Sundevils either, flavors! Glad to see you have them on ice–perfect for sending heads into another area code in a few years.

Bob–Haha, you’re funny! All of the Rucker Collaborations were fire, but there’s something about that burnt orange/sky blue/gum bottom combo that is NICE on these!

For those looking for the Bounce Special makeup (or any other sneakers from the Rucker pack for that matter), they’re still available in small numbers on www.kickz.us

    Peace!
