Chicago playground legend Will “The Thrill” Bynum is still catching wreck, for those who’ve been wondering. Before he led Georgia Tech on their cinderalla Final Four run in 2004 with his unmistakable park boogie, burst and flavor, “The Thrill” had already etched his name into his hometown’s rich basketball tapestry. And that’s saying something, considering the fact that Chicago’s point guard roster boasts the likes of Isiah, Mo Cheeks, Doc Rivers and Tim Hardaway. At Crane High School, The Thrill was All City four years in a row. But the parks and elite summer tournaments like the Nike Pro City at Whitney Young HS is where he cemented his true legacy by smashing fellow Windy City cats like Antoine Walker, Sean Dockery, Tony Allen, Luther Head and Dee Brown, among many others.
In ‘05-’06, Bynum led the D-League in scoring as a rookie with 24 ppg for the Roanoke Dazzle. He grabbed a quick cup of coffee with the Warriors in the NBA before heading to the Euroleague. In last week’s championship, Will dazzled with 23 points, though Maccabi lost to CSKA Moscow 91-77 behind Trajan Langdon’s 21 points.
Keep representing for the playground Will, bringing our delicious style, seasonings, essence and grace to the world-wide smorgasbord.
