On April 3rd, my man Wayne ´Frosty Freeze´ Frost moved on to the spiritual (Read about it here). As a member of the Rock Steady Crew in the ´80s, he was among the first breakers to expose the rest of the world to the artform through appearances in films like Flashdance (the first time anyone saw footwork on a theater screen), Style Wars (the first hip hop documentary), and Wildstyle (the culture´s first feature drama).
On April 11th, the hip hop community paid tribute with a party at the Goddard Riverside Community Center on 91st and Amsterdam in the Upper West Side of Manhattan where Frosty grew up. Ken Swift hosted, the Bandulas killed it while playing live breakbeats, and of course the dancers went nuts.

The highlight of the evening was when a five minute documentary was screened on Frosty’s life. Man, I tell you–when the Flashdance scene came on and he blew a kiss to the screen after the backbreaker move, I literally felt like he was there with us still. And he was. Strong spirits never pass. My arms shot with goosebumps as I’m sure everyone else’s did, too.
Shout out and mad love to everyone who rolled through, of course including my peoples Crazy Legs, Suga Pop, and Mr. Wiggles below.

And to Frosty Freeze, I love you, b. You made a lot of people smile while you were on this earth, and still have the ability to do so now you’re gone. Bless.
