The Essence Of Gettin’ Boarded . . . / Apr 30, 2008 / 10:00 am

There are blocked shots, and then there is the essence of gettin’ boarded, or what we called, “getting pinned” to the backboard back in the day. It immediately reminds me of seeing Richie Adams or Walter Berry, guys in the ’80s who took that park aesthetic and made it a melody during the NCAA days. I once saw Walter a.k.a. “the Truth” catch somebody on the boards, then cuffed the ball between his hand and forearm with one arm on the way down. That was downright humiliating!

In the above video, Akeem Pierre catches dude lovely. We featured the Canadian ballplayer on our site before, check it here.

ah, getting pinned, that lovliest of defensive accomplishments in the park. seemed like it was more acceptable to get dunked on than to get pinned when I was coming up.

Richie Adams at the Rucker was fun to watch. I remember being out there and seeing this cat named Wolverine, who was pinning everybody.
