Former U. of New Orleans stand-out John “Mardi Gras” hit plenty of jumpers last week. On this, we waved goodbye to us.
Last Sunday, our Warriors squad lost in the Pelham Fritz 38 and Over League Semi-Final to the ‘07 Champs the Celtics featuring former Knick Charles Smith, former Olympian Mike Bantom, and Rucker legend “Speedy” Williams. We got smacked by 30. Ugh, it was ugly! I had fun though. Garbage time is the only place that our coach Ron Rogers won’t wince at me getting cute with the ball. I made sure all the bottom of the bench players scored, and then walked out with the game’s highlight when I jumped in the lane and passed the ball under my right leg to my man underneath for a deuce. I heard the crowd go, “Ooh!” That was about the only consolation for an otherwise grueling season finish.
The best two out of three championship series starts this Sunday, 4/27 at 12 noon with the Celtics taking on the Suns featuring former Iona star Tony Hargraves, former Puerto Rico Nat’l Team member Wes Correa, and former St. Johns sharpshooter Mike Moses. Pelham Fritz takes place at IS 201 Gym, 127th St. bet. Park and Madison, Harlem USA.
