“It’s The Shoes” Celebrates . . . / Apr 23, 2008 / 9:08 am

David Jacoby, “It’s The Shoes” co-creator/co-producer @ his birthday.

In 2005, the world’s first-ever TV series based on sneaker culture was conceived by David Jacoby and Kevin Wildes. They were two young employees at ESPN working on various shows who decided to take initiative and shoot their own pilot which featured me, Fat Joe, and Scoop Jackson. That first show never aired, but it was good enough to demonstrate to ESPN that the idea was strong enough for a series. It got the green light and ran for two very successful consecutive seasons culminating in ‘06 with featured guests including “Magic” Johnson, Allen Iverson, Baron Davis, Kobe, Chris Paul, Clark Kent, Biz Markie, on and on. The rest is youtube.com history . . .

On April 12th, my good friend Dave celebrated his birthday by renting a court at Chelsea Piers and inviting his peoples to run. We chose sides, and me, him, and Kevin ran on the same squad. Well, we might have won over the audience with “It’s The Shoes,” but we definitely couldn’t figure out a W that day! We lost 8 or 9 games straight, but had a ball in the process! I’m sorry Dave!

For all those asking about the possible return of our series, please continue your interest as we have never stopped pitching it to come back to the airwaves. And, please, feel free to wish Mr. Jacoby a special-belated B-Day!
