The Man Who Put The Clamps On Jordan / Apr 17, 2008 / 9:26 am

On the Free Cheese line shooting is Tony Hargraves, left to right is Wes Correa, Moe Black and “Disco” Fred Brown.

Last Sunday April 13th, the Pelham Fritz 38 And Over League staged its Semi-Finals. In a best of three series, the Suns, led by Wes Correa’s 35 points, took a 1-0 lead over the Bulls who took it in ‘05. The Suns were also lead by the passing wizardry of Tony Hargraves, who in the ’80s as an Iona College star once held UNC’s Michael Jordan to only 6 points. It was 20 years later until someone else could claim clamping the greatest scorer of our time to under double figures.

In the other PFBL Semi, my squad the Warriors lost to the Celtics who were led by former Knicks forward Charles Smith, ‘72 Olympian Mike Bantom, and playground legend “Speedy” Williams. I played like doo-doo. I’ll leave it at that!

Action returns this Sunday, April 20th with games at 10:30am and 12:30pm @ IS 201 gym, 2nd floor, 127th St. bet. Madison & Park in Harlem, USA.

  1. Sean Couch says:

Tony Hargraves played on a great Iona team that had All-American Gary Springer, Steve Burtt Sr. and Rory Grimes.
Tony’s defensive game was on par with Gene Smith from Georgetown. No one plays the passing lanes like Tony. Tony has to be at the top of the list in Iona history in steals.

I also won an EBC chip with him. One of the most underrated
players in NYC back in the late ’80s to mid ’90s.
