Congratulations to 2008 D-League MVP Kasib Powell. Sib produced big, dominating for the Sioux City Sky Force averaging 22.3 points and 5.8 rebound per game. Powell is a Dyckman Basketball alumni and now an achiever of his NBA dream as a member of the Miami Heat. In Bounce edition 10, I asked him about his pro chances. He came back at me hard and said, “They’re going to have to let me in.” Miami should look long and hard at Sib’s versatility as a member of the rotation for next year.
I am personally very proud because I assisted him when he got out of Texas Tech back in 2003 by organizing a pro workout that featured the Cavs’ Sasha Pavlovic and Grizzlies’ Darko Milicic. Kasib was a bit raw but very explosive off his feet. His time playing in pro leagues around the world has seasoned his game. This year, he put the whole package together by extending his shooting range as a viable 3-pt shooter. With the Heat, he’s averaging about 8 points in 28 minutes of playing time.

As far as his street game, Sib is one of the most entertaining players to watch. He was the MVP of the UBL-Englewood, New Jersey Pro-Am last year, played out at Kingdome last summer, and was one of the most exciting players up in Dyckman when he played for my TEAM AND1 that featured a starting line-up that was 6-6 and better. Sib is living his dream, mission accomplished for real.

ayo! congrats kasib! i remember when you brought him down to that fireball all-star game in ‘03 you coached. i didn’t know who dude was, he didn’t know me either. he totally dominated at baruch that day, and it was bugging me out that he kept looking to feed me on the perimeter. i was like this dude can score whenever he wants, and he’s still unselfish? that’s rare in this day and age. he’s just knows the game. well. plus he got bungees. i’m real happy for him. another coach couch product in the nba!
