The Brooklyn High School Class Spring Season got underway last Saturday at Thomas Jefferson High School. The action-packed day of hoops got underway with Real Scout running past the NY Dragons. Louisville bound Melquan Bolding made the trip from Boston to dazzle the crowd with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.
The second game of the afternoon was an overtime barnburner, as All Game squared off against Starrett City. David Coley scored fifteen points all told, but his most crucial deuce came after he scored off of a Kashaun Alston free throw miss with less than two seconds left in regulation. Keith Spellman asserted himself in the extra session, dropping 17 points and getting his team the W.
Defending tourney champs, Usual Suspects, seemingly did not lose a beat, easily defeating M.A.S. in their opener. All-American Kemba Walker poured in 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, while forward Justin Greene added 24 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Sahid Williams and Isaiah Johnson led M.A.S. with 15 points apiece.
In the last matchup of the day, United Brooklyn handled the younger Elmcor team. Bilal Dixon led the way for UB, rolling out with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Darryl Bryant added 18 points, while Pat Jackson contributed 15 points for United Brooklyn. William Townsend, who dropped 11 points, led Elmcor.
The action continues this weekend with more incredibly fast-paced hoops action, as the tourney adds a team from North Carolina to the mix.
