20 years ago the Diabolical Biz Markie took the Hip Hop world and turned it upside down while laughing the whole way to the bank with hits like “Pickin’ Boogers” and one of my favorite jams ever “Just Rhymin’ with Biz” featuring Big Daddy Kane. how could espn not have this show again? the sneaker culture is getting bigger and bigger by the day yet espn no longer wants this show. this show should be on all year not just summer. what a disgrace!!!!!!!
i remeber rockin’ the blue spotbilts, playin’ ball up in new england in the mid/late 80’s. used to kill ‘em up there with those, the k-swiss and avia joints. burgers, who thought i had on zips, used to snicker and laugh ’cause they’d never seen ‘em. i told ‘em to come to ny and get edified. then i’d hit ‘em up w/ long range three’s. thanks for the diabolical reminisce bob. reminds me of biz at the tournaments uptown handin’ out mixtapes to the pharmeceutical entrepreneurs when the crack economy was boomin’. “make the music…..”
biz is easily one of my favorite artists.. dont get me wrong, i love all kinds of hip hop (well, not a lot of the new stuff going on now) but i long for the days where an MC like biz could be respected, and looked at as a major person in the game, without having to prove how hard he was or be fake.. he was who he was and made some INCREDIBLE records..
i have also seen him spin a few times, and he rocks the party with the best of them..
this was a great episode, i watched every episode when they aired, and have watched all the things on youtube over and over. im sure ESPN has the rights, but it would be great if we could get the seasons on DVD..
bro, believe i let espn know they should make a dvd, but that’s totally up to them and i doubt they’d ever do it since they chose not to even bring back the series in ‘07 after two successful seasons.
bob, who had the illest collection out of everyone you met with? i guess its hard not to say biz with all that old flavor, but you had some crazy sneaker heads on that show.. fat joe had some serious heat too, although too many AF1’s in my opinion.. but then again, so many of them were exclusives and that has to be mentioned.. also, something tells me he had much more we didnt get to see..
hard to say, chris. biz had the most that anyone showed. fat joe supposedly has a whole nother room of goodies in his miami home that we didn’t see. clark kent only brought a duffle bag to the studio we interviewed him in, never got to the crib itself. good question!
not that many–i donate to hoops 4 hope and other charities on the regular. if you’re interested, just type in their name into the search box above. i’ve put a lot of info on their organization on the site since our inception.
one of my favorite joints of all time is ‘nobody beats the biz’ -
“…on and on, to the break o’ dawn, when you buy food cheap you need a coupon, or catch a sale retail, before it gets stale, so hurry up and get the WIC check out the mail, and shop nonstop, buy how i hip hop, on the mic and like, make ‘em cooperate w/ the rhythm, that is what i give ‘em, reagan is the prez but i voted for SHIRLEY CHISOLM.”
Loved this show Bob. You gotta keep puttin the other its the shoes vids up.
