Over the past two years, adidas has worked with stud Gilbert Arenas to create a line of high-end low top sneakers. Agent 0 sticks to strictly low top sneakers on the hardwood (he’s cited in numerous articles that he enjoys the better heel fit and lighter weight typically associated with low-oriented shoes), and again, adidas came through with a shoe that not only works for him on the court, but also does an awesome job representing his unique personality.

The “Cust0mize” version comes complete with a dry-erase marker that allows for unique customization on the upper. Combine this with interchangeable cushioning insoles and funky drawings that pay homage to Gil’s ’07 commercials, and you have a winner off an on the court. I don’t have a pair of these yet, but I hope to scoop up a pair soon!

The TS lightswitch is a little bit better than the Gilzero 1, the sole has more traction & more cushioning. The best Arenas for now..avoid the nubuck version, they gets dirty too quickly…

hey Jeremy, I’m also a low top addict, I can’t play with mid or high sneakers. I got an idea of post for you next article, you should do a ranking of the best low top shoes…
    here’s my top 5 :
    1.Zoom Lebron 2 low
    2.Adidas TS lightswitch low
    3.Jordan 11 low
    4.Adidas superstar 2G low
    5.Reebok Question low…

KBL- I don’t have a pair of these yet, but I’ve heard wonderful things from you about them…

Kev.-The ForMotion pods imparted a slightly firm feel underfoot. I liked it, but I know some others might not.

I tried a ranking article at the beginning of this year, and I think I learned my lesson. Grades and rakings are trivial. I mean, I ranked the Zoom BB #2 on my list of ‘07 shoes, but there wasn’t much separation between my #1, The Onslaught Mid. I’d ball in both any day, any week. Davidson was a 10 seed in the tourney and ran through my beloved Badgers, G’Town, and Gonzaga. There is “no universal” best for anyone.

Therefore, I don’t think I’ll do any rankings. However, I’ll definitely make a post exposing some dope lows down the line…

    Thanks for the suggestion!

    Peace Jerm’

One of my all time favorite lows was the Nike “Air Yoke”…No one laments for those, and I don’t even remember how they felt on the asphalt - but I remember loving them for an entire school year and summer. I had em in black on white, they had a backwards swoosh on the rear upper (the first on a low I can recall, predated by the Darwin Hi) and I remember this chunky sole that could’ve been mistaken for something from the ACG category of kicks which were fresh for 1995! What set them off for me was the basketball logo on the tongue which I cut off and rocked as a medallion and the fingerloop on the heel with air written on it which I painstakingly tried to keep stiff & erect (yeah kiddies thats what I wrote). I rocked’em hard in middleschool and got more “what are those?” than any shoe I can remember when I was a young kid. First shoe I copped a second pair of, with a little help from mom dukes, and she couldn’t understand while I was still cleaning the first pair when I had a box of freshly baked cookies she helped pay for stashed. Had no conception of icing for exclusivity, I just wanted to hold on to wearing these for as long as I could. Word!…the yoke’s came in green too; canvas with a white swoosh though I never saw a pair in person.

PS Back when, I used to spot a white 12″ sleeve with the Cucumberslice approved sticker on it and I knew I didn’t have to listen to it first to know I would enjoy it. I feel the same way about your posts now…when I see your byline, straight to the readmore…automatic systematic. Big up!

    Josh-

Thanks for the love man. It keeps me going and inspires me to keep bringing funky stuff to the table. I’ll keep trying to do my thing! Thanks for the support, brother…

I’ve actually never seen a pair of the Yoke’s in person, but I saw them in Scoop’s book, and defintely think there’s a ton of ACG inspiration in them…I think they pulled of the shoe nicely, and wish we’d see more creative flair like that now-a-days.

And the love the story about you keeping your joints clean, and your mom not understanding why. Shoes will always be something special to me, but in the end, a shoe is a shoe, and it’s meant to be worn. There’s lots of great memories to be had when you ACTUALLY wear the shoe, as opposed to just re-selling it, or keeping it deadstock forever. I’ve had plenty of fond memories in my Converse Weapons, a3 Decades, And1 Onslaughts, Bromium III’s.
