As March Madness begins, the “one man fast break” is seeking an identity. Who will be the guard to create the easy buckets and lead his team to chip? I keep hearing Derrick Rose from Memphis is the money. If so, he should check New York’s own Ken “The Jet” Smith, one of the many guards in the city that had the run-by-you-and-lay-you mentality. Ken honed his game at Lost Battalion Hall in Queens and played in the Rucker and the NYC Pro-Am throughout his career. As the NCAA tourney begins lets see if there is a guard in the tradition of Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson that can win chips in both the NBA and NCAA with the playground style. These highlights are no joke!

has anyone ever seen kenny demonstrate his two-ball drills? if you think that mike conley clip was crazy, you had to see ‘the jet’ in his prime? we did some nike event out in lefrac once, like ‘95, and he was showing all these kids crazy ballhandling conditioning. even speedy williams in his recent bounce interview gave props for kenny as having an ill handle when it came to the playground. don’t forget he’s an nba champion, too. not many can say they rocked both.

what happened to Kenny in the NBA? Damn i remember when Bill Russell was his coach with the Kings and he wasnt playing like that. He looks like KJ in those clips. I forgot how sick he was in college. Derrick Rose or no one in college has it like that.

Kenny did get those chips and is a new york legend and he had the ill between the legs off he bankboard dunk in the dunk contest.

  5. Sean Couch says:

Kenny is slept on. He was one of the fastest players with the ball in the history of the college game. Also in Bounce
edition #11 when I demonstrated the 2-ball catch and shoot, i mentioned one of the inspirations of the drill was Ken Smith. Ken is a true playground promoter. He loves the asphalt game.

I didn’t know Kenny was this good. The only clip i’ve seen of him is the behind the legs dunk and I only really knew him as a 3 point shooter for the rockets. He’s got pretty quick ups and real athletic too.

i was waiting for a windmill dunk on the fast break, but i guess I’ve seen too many josh smith / iggy highlights.

man Kenny smith was nasty back then i knew about kenny smith when i started watching alot of NBA TV and TNT and all those vintage shows about the Rockets Back to back Championships he also calls games for the knicks. My opinion is somebody give him a job with the organiztion as or coach or something other than calling games don’t get me wrong he’s a great commentator and analyst but i believe he will make a good coach…somewhat better than isiah thomas

  8. 40 cal says:

U just gotta love watching throwback kenny smith clips he used to put alot of umph in those reverse dunks

  9. Jesse Washington says:

The other day on TNT somebody was calling Jason Terry from the Mavs “The Jet” and said he snatched Kenny’s nickname. Kenny said, “The streets of Noo Yawk gave me that name!” Word!!

  10. E$ says:

all the time I watched him play for the Rockets, I’ve never seen his college play. He was pretty good, I’m surprised I didn’t see him dunk more in the pro’s.
