Last year, I sent a package to Hoops 4 Hope in Capetown, South Africa. I donated several slightly used sneakers, plus issues of REVERSE magazine for the kids over there. I always wondered if my package reached the organization or not . . . then recently I received a touching and warm letter from a volunteer to thank me and to say how happy the kids were.
We’re slaves of the capitalistic economy–buying, collecting, accumulating sneakers and clothes. We have more than we need. Brands are producing, selling sneakers. What about the flawed products? Could they send those shoes to the kids instead of destroying them?
It only took me 30 minutes and 40 € of shipping costs to make some young ballers happy, so let’s help Hoops 4 Hope with shoes, textiles, magazines, and love . . .

kevin-
great post and props for taking your time out to donate. i literally sent hoops 4 hope another package this week. i make it my business to put together a box about every 2-3 months. i’ve never received a personal letter from any of the kids, so count yourself fortunate! that’s special!
