“Unbreakable, unforgettable, unstoppable is our love for basketball” is the main theme of Converse’s “I’m with Basketball” recently launched campaign. It doesn’t matter where you live, how good your playground is, or how difficult your life is because basketball is in your genes.
For 2 years I’ve gathered several images shot by international photographers to publish in France’s REVERSE magazine and launch as a photo exhibit in Paris.
Feel free to post your shots on my new FLICKR group : Asphalt Chronicles
I will share some of the collected pictures of those Forgotten Hoops.
Let’s start with a court under the Manhattan Bridge–what’s the story behind those rusty and broken rims?

yo–i love that shot in mexico! i wanna call ‘next’! we got rims like that all over the hoods of nyc, even though this is the asphalt mecca, there’s still not enough playgrounds for everyone who balls so heads get creative, especially in washington heights and parts of brooklyn. great post kev!

Thanks for the infos 40 cal, it’s great to learn those little anecdotes. I took that picture during my last trip in NYC, as usual , each time i see a playground in NYC I have to capture it with my camera…
Bob, thank you , it’s the first post of a long streak about the ” forgotten hoops”.

Next year the NBA is going to hold one of there exhibition games outdoors. Obviously, they’ll be runnin’ on some portable official wooden floor. But, is there anyone out there who wouldn’t pay to see them ballin’ on some cracked up concrete (think 80’s/90’s W.4th)with some netless bent rims?

i’d think that be hot, russ. for real. let’s see what some of their shooting percentages would be like then! i remember hearing about steve nash showing up to battery park for halfcourt run 2 summers ago and he killed, as expected, but some of those other dudes wouldn’t deal well with the elements. props to the nba though for the idea. i saw a doc on the globetrotters outdoor game in germany back back. looked bananas.
