Jason "White Shadow" Gibbons says:
I Just got my first script of bounce and it really hit home for me so I wanted to share a few thoughts from the heart.
I’ve always felt that the stereotypes on the playground have helped my game more than hurt it. I moved to Tampa after college and lived around the corner from the hottest pick up games in the city. Being the only white player out there, I had to go all out every minute to prove I could hold my own and dudes went at me hard every game. I always heard the noise but the first time I cocked one back on one of the biggest haters out there, everything changed. No one ever knew my name but for the next two years I was “white boy who dunked on Damien” and I got nothing but love from then on.
The point being, real recognizes real. I’ve always felt that having a bulls eye on my back has made me the player I am today. If you have the love and can hold your own out there, being a white man in a black man’s game can be an advantage.
