Super Globetrotters! / Feb 21, 2008 / 5:19 pm

Whether choreographed or not, the Harlem Globetrotters effect on the hoops world is infallible. In 1979, cartoon production company Hanna-Barbera created the spin-off series Super Globetrotters based on their 1970 cartoon Harlem Globetrotters.

The show ended after thirteen brief episodes, but its cinematic value goes on and on—word to Godfather Don. The show chronicled the journey of the Trotters (each with their own power) as they faced off against a wide-range of villains.

Super Globetrotters Roster:

Name: Nate Branch
Alias: Liquid Man
Power: While the nickname wasn’t overly creative, Liquid’s ability to drown his opponents with deft ball handling flavor certainly was.

Name: Freddy “Curly” Neal
Alias: Sphere Man
Power: With retractable arms and a head shaped like a basketball, Neal ensured the Super Globetrotters got all the right bounces.

Name: James “Twiggy” Sanders
Alias: Spaghetti Man
Power: Twiggy could stretch his body to amazing lengths. Sorry Jamaal Tinsley, you ain’t getting a teardrop over Spaghetti.

Name: Louis “Sweet Lou” Dunbar
Alias: Gizmo Man
Power: Anyone who can hide a backboard in their ‘fro deserves respect.

Name: Hubert “Geese” Ausbie
Alias: Multi Man
Power: Before Dolly, there was Geese…who could clone himself into anything

Haha..Thanks Bob. I’ve been listening to his ‘90 release “Hazardous” for a minute. I’m loving “On and On”, “Full Circle” & “Just Begun”. I was suprised to see the last two sampled Jimmy Castor’s “It’s Just Begun”! Of course, I’m all over the Cenobites too…whenever I get a chance at hearing you get busy on the lyrical tip I’m down! haha…

What’s his new jazz band called?

Yo bob you got those godfather don joints he did with herb mcgruff? do you plan on releasing some more of those joints to put out another ep with diggerswithgratitude.com?

i’m not up on any godfather don/herb mcgruff collabs at all. and had that happened it would’ve went down in the mid-’90s when don was totally giving me every demo to play on the radio show. don did just put up an ep of unreleased material with a label in the UK. i helped them get their hands on some of the lost songs that not even don had anymore.

as for his jazz band, don’t know the name of the group.
