Yo, you have to peep Claude Johnson’s http://blackfivesblog.com/?p=315 piece on the formation of the Washington 12 Streeters all-Black basketball team from the early 1900s and how it relates to the presidential campaign. Great stuff!

PS – Bobbito, me and my kids were just watching The Freshest Kids … with your cameo in there (my oldest is 8). A beautiful film. Bittersweet in some spots. But just fun and positive. Real nostalgia. Everyone kinda knows where they were when all that was happening in the early 80s. A real clear picture of how the foundation was laid for today.

director izreal brenner did a wonderful job with that and worked on it for years. i remember in ‘98-’99 showing a trailer of his film at the rock steady crew anniversary film festival i curated, just to give you an idea on how long he put it in to get interviews and stories. there’s some pieces, for example a 5 minute foray on brooklyn uprocking, that never made the final cut unfortunately. another note–izreal brenner was responsible for linking me to image entertainment who wound up distributing my instructional ‘basics to boogie’ dvd. so big up mr. brenner! oh, claude, he plays ball, too! i gave him hell at west 4th in 2000 during the rock steady 3 on 3, but he hit some nice jumpers (even with his yellow u. of colorado hat on)!
