adidas 1 on Drew Peets at Studio B Ralph McDaniel jump-off. For those who remember my Sebastian Telfair “It’s the Shoes” ESPN interview, we both got laced in these while playing 1 on 1 at the adidas campus in Portland. I had never peeped them in white/royal, though. Oooooooooh . . .

Nike Zoom BB II on Paul “PR” Rivera at Nike NRF game. League rules state that a player will receive a tech for being out of uniform, which includes the Team Elite IIs they hooked us with, but instead of PR being in violation, the ref should’ve given him free throws. The designer of the BB I hit it on the nose with function, but came short on style. The BB II is a double double on both. Mean.

Nike Team Elite II Shox on Bang Lee at 14th St. Y. These are the NRF issue joints that PR should’ve been wearing. In green they are straight bananas, made me want to get traded (our squad wears them in white/red)!

adidas Crazy 8 on Ted “Ice” at Pelham Fritz 38 and over League. I should be watching Kobe drop 50 on the Knicks right now instead of typing up blogs, but props to Ted for pulling these out to match his PFBL Kings uni lovely. I’d never seen them in black/ice blue, reminded me of the old Nike Franchise Columbia U. Lions make-ups from ‘81 that were featured in my book (and were one of the most rare joints of that time).

Bob,
Thanks for the big ups! To bad the cushioning mechanism doesn’t kick in while just standing around or doing Pilates. I’m loving the blog though B. Its great to see the focus of form & function & freshness and not just on the fashion of it all. I became a sneaker head because I was a jock so I’ve always been into the innovation of it all. Keep throwing up the ill active joints! (as well as the dopetastic rarities and one offs.) Until the next Marlon Rando encounter…

Drew Peets–didn’t even know you knew Tone. Did you meet him at the station back in the day during a heat session, or were you aerobics partners? or do all cool people 6′7″ and taller just know each other on the strength?

Drew Peets says:
Yep. Got a secret handshake and everything.
I think we met at the station or out with Sear and Co. After having mutual respect for each others snaps and being tall light-skinned athletes we were cool peeps. Kicked it at his crib a few times the whole nine.
I remember hanging out on the benches in Jefferson when him and a 7 foot trophy pulled up (!), both hanging out the back windows of a Hyundai after winning some tourney in the BX. Comedy central!
Lost touch when I moved outta state and last I saw him I was on 2-5th a while a go. Tone Grizzle is a good dude and makes me feel like a normal dude to walk around with. Tone if you’re reading this HOLLER!!!
