As we reported here weeks ago (http://www.bouncemag.com/2008/01/10/a-barefoot-d1-coach-with-a-cause-a-must-read/), on Jan. 24th IUPUI Coach Ron Hunter stepped on the floor minus shoes and socks to help build awareness for young African athletes where this is a norm. In process, he’s helped the Samaritan’s Feet organization collect over 100,000 sneakers in less than a month. That’s change. Converse chipped in 15,000, as did other huge corporations.
Oh, and his squad won, too.

For info about the shoe drive, check www.samaritansfeet.org, and to arrange shoe donations, reach out to Samaritan’s Feet Marketing Director, Todd Melloh at 317-417-3525 or tmelloh@samaritansfeet.org.
Bounce supports this effort. We hope you do, too.

Much love for Coach Hunter. It was probably a good thing that the whole team didn’t play barefoot. But then again, a lot of kids go 5-on-5 all-out sans kicks on my local court, so it ain’t impossible..

Incredible commitment to demonstrating the reality of many people in the world. The Coach is to be commended to bring attention to this cause.
Everyone should try this for a few hours to understand what it is like and act on the opportunity to help by giving a donation. In particular if you are one of those people that have too many sneakers already and have lost all sense of reality.
