“Big Game” In Two Languages, Merci! / Jan 21, 2008 / 10:00 am

Kareem “Big Game” Reid, who graced issue #11’s cover and was our pre-summer #1 rated NYC player, recently wrote us a little update from the other side of the Atlantic:

What’s up Bobbito, Sean Couch, and the rest of the Bounce Family?

I’m currently playing in France with JL Bourg as the leading US point guard. It’s been great! The experience is very different from NYC Streetball, as you need to adapt to the language, food, people and culture. The league’s fast pace is similar to back home, although here it’s about Ws and also “Point Spread.” At the end of the season it can come down to the System count as well. In other countries you just need to get accustomed to the oversea’s style overall.

It’s exciting when I compete against other NYC players. It’s that relaxed sense that someone can relate to you and just know the same language. I recently was watching 50 Cents Diary TV show, and he expressed the same when he’s overseas and sees someone from America. I’ve played against Ron Yates, Mookie, and Pete Mulligan. We check up on each other weekly and stay in tuned, congratulations go ’round when we catch a friend’s televised games.

Sometimes I have to put the “Book Bag” on but I’m lucky I’m on one of the talented teams. I’m averaging 15 ppg and 8 assists, and we are currently in 2nd place. My squad provides me with the opportunity to orchestrate more than take over the game, as I can get everyone in the right spot. I was always a leader, but we have 8-9 of the best French players. I have goals for myself and wanted to lead this year and win the championship! This is my first real 10 month stint overseas. I’m gifted to be in the right position. Everyone wants to get to the NBA . . . know that playing Overseas provides opportunities and a good way of living.

Look out this Summer 2008, “Big Game” Reid will be back to return to my #1 Streetball spot!

  1. Sean Couch says:

Reem Reid, good look. Say whats up to Pete Mulligan. Tough league and good living over there. Keep up the good work. We look forward to seeing you on the playground this summer.

  2. Elliot Rosado says:

The year was 1992. I went to go see what the big deal was about this freshman from Rice H.S. name Felie Lopez. They were playing against St. Raymond’s. He did not dissapoint. But there was this fresman on St. Ray’s who also caught my attention. I told my friends he is and will be better than Felipe Lopez. they all looked at me like i was crazy. Although Kareeem is a great streetball player let’s not forget what he did at the high school & College level. Check the records.
