Ever wonder where Martinique native Ronny Turiaf’s crazy joy of living on the court and bench comes from? After a little trip to his small island in the French West Indies, I’ve observed this “joie de vivre” is part of his roots & culture. Basketball is a real religion with an incalculable number of believers and places of worship there. Unfortunately, it’s not always a good condition for proper training.

Despite France’s economic and cultural disdain towards its colonies, the Martinique inhabitants keep their happiness and passion for sport. Cycling is #1, then comes B-ball. It’s not structured like in France, but some great athletes still arise from those islands scattered in the Caribbean Sea.
