Training with the Wave Ball / Dec 27, 2007 / 4:58 pm

Prevent ‘cookies’ & ‘apple turnovers’ with this.

Over the past several months the new Wave ball has been a part of my personal training workouts. Wouldn’t say anything if it wasn’t legit. Here’s a review from a player who worked indoors with it.

Mack Montgomery - Sr. Guard Columbia University

“From my personal usage, the Wave proved to be a helpful tool with enhancing parts of my game. The added ridges force you to shoot with more rotation on your shot, thus allowing you to become more consistent. It also helps with sharpening your handle given the different feel. When going back to a regular game ball, it feels more comfortable handling.”

My Outdoor Analysis:

One of the things I liked about the ball is that it doesn’t wear away outdoors. A leather rock outside is hot. Secondly, for those with shaky handles, the ridges increase confidence. I’d like to see more of the Wave this summer on the playground. A ball like this could increase scoring to go along with the new outdoor glass-backboard initiative in New York City.

Shooting

Improves for those with no-rotation jump shots. A ball with nothing but ridges gives one the opportunity to get those fingertips in the grooves. For a more detailed review check out Dime # 38/Shaq cover.

How’s the grip on these? It’d take a lot for me to go away from my Wilson NCAA Indoor/Outdoor joints…

    Jeremy:

Grip is real good. The ridges give you a comfort level with the rock. It’s a good ball that can go indoor and out. Funny thing is they don’t sell it like that.

Couch, I’m co-signing you on the WAVE ball. My “J” was ON FIRE when I used it for the first time. I’m scared to start using it on a regular basis though.

Try it as a training ball. When you go back to the regular 8-paneled ball see the results for yourself.
