Top 10 Basketball Shoes of ‘07: #8-10 / Dec 26, 2007 / 10:46 pm

This list reflects my 10 favorite releases in 2007. Of course, there are several shoes out there that I have not had the pleasure of playing in, so feel free to chime in and voice your thoughts. Also, I haven’t gotten the chance to play in the newest releases–the Lebron V, Jordan Melo M4, 12.5, etc. If these joints warrant a top 10 come the end of ‘08, I’ll be sure to give them the shine they deserve.

10. Starbury II-

I’m not here to assert that these joints are comparable to $80 or $100 dollar sneakers like the in-store Steve and Barry’s commercials, but for $15, these are pretty solid. The shoe is extremely firm underfoot, and is not very durable on outdoor surfaces. But as Marbury states himself, “This is bigger than basketball. For the first time, Moms can buy their kids cool, comfortable, affordable shoes.”

9. Reebok Voyage Mid-

I can’t lie. I was hyped like Kool Keith with a new Hustler when I saw these. The DMX Max Air offers great heel comfort, while the interesting translucent themed outsole provides stellar grip on all floors. Reebok is just getting started—I’ll warn you now—LOOK OUT.

8. And 1 Wonder Mid

Ai-ight, so I wish And1 would’ve gotten wilder with their color blocking on this model. However, if the released colorways appeal to you, these are certainly Wonder-ful on-court. Ankle support and heel fit are nutso thanks to the TPU support skeleton. The shoe is incredibly flexible as well, thanks to the segmented outsole. The weartest sample version of this shoe was absolutely butter–hopefully I can post pictures of them eventually.

    I’ll cosign for the Starbury II’s red/white/blue edition because I own a pair myself…

As for a write in: The Adidas Crazy 8 (re-release)…My favorite was the white/royal blue/black colorway…
Their EVA midsoles and rubber bottoms make for straight up comfort and great traction on the court… I dig the design as well. The combination of patent leather and synthetic is extra nice.

If reebok is just getting started that is lame. They have not put out any heat since the first Iverson. They just don’t know what they are doing. I wouldn’t hold your breathe….

  3. Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love says:

the and1 wonder mids look flavor, never really caught my eye until now . . . may have to make a call for a pair! haha.

Bob–Nice…Check out the Onslaughts…they’ll be showcased in a few days ;)

Really: RBK has done some rehiring and changed brand direction a drastically over the past 3 years. The Answer 11 is a quality shoe with a great backstory. They won’t be on the this list though, because I haven’t played in them or tried them on. ‘08 should be VERY interesting…
