The Bounce Family would like to extend our condolences to the Marbury Family. This past Sunday, Donald Marbury Sr., father of street ball legend and New York Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury, passed away.
Don Sr. raised a family of ballers. All of Steph’s older brothers did their thing at famed Lincoln H.S. in the Coney Island Section of Brooklyn. Don Jr, Eric, and Norman all learned the game from their father. Don would go on to star at Texas A&M, Eric played alongside Dominique Wilkins at the University of Georgia, and Norman was a Brooklyn legend… some calling him one of the best points NYC has ever seen.
Stephon followed in his brother’s footsteps becoming one of the best guards in the country, honing his game on the famed asphalt of Coney Island. He would go on to star at Georgia Tech and soon after be selected with the 4th pick in NBA Draft. Stephon has become one of the most prolific scoring point guards in NBA history. And still he finds time to make a trip up to E.B.C. and play with Fat Joe’s Terror Squad.

Donald Marbury was a huge part of the success of all of his sons; He made sure his boys stayed away from the evils that come along with NYC Basketball. He instilled in them the focus to get up early in the morning before everyone else and endure the infamous ‘Coney Island Workout’ that recent Lincoln High School star Sebastian “2 Fast 2 Furious” Telfair (Marbury’s cousin) and current phenom Lance “Born Ready” Stephenson still use to hone their skills.
Donald Marbury was an indirect fixture in our community. All of his sons, including the youngest Zack, played Division 1A–A feat that not too many father’s can boast to have accomplished.
Rest in Peace Donald Marbury Sr.

Just want to send all my condolences to the Marbury Family. Coney Island lost an important person in ones life. Mr. Don Marbury was like a father figure in my life which kept me and got me out of a lot of trouble if it wasn’t for his influence in the game of basketball. People like Steph, Zach, Jamel “530″ Thomas changed my life forever. Mr. Don and Norman kept Coney Island together who was serious about playing the game of basketball.
RIP: Mr. Donald Marbury “The father of Coney Island Basketball”
