Yo, one of the playground’s hottest things is the announcer. He is the one that blesses the player with the NICKNAME. Some folk come out to games just hear what the MIC is going to say about a player, a coach, or even what someone in the crowd is wearing. This artwork that we received a few years ago is a sample of that. The MC dunks the ball and gets paid now in ways that people can’t even imagine.

Records, video games, special events, tours, and the like. The playground feeds our peeps who keep good clean fun to a maximum. Who’s your favorite park announcer? Is it our own Bobbito that did NBA Street/NBA 2K8, Duke Tango from AND 1, Rucker Park’s Boobie Smoove, AG from Kingdome and hook layer on Chicken Noodle soup, or another we haven’t mentioned. Let us know.

The hottest announcer right now. My man from the Watson Classic in the BX. It’s like he’s hosting a party. Sometimes you cant wait for someone to call time out just to see what he’s gonna say or do.

when I saw the photo it reminded me of my man Justin Bua. He used to live down the block from Rock Steady Park. his art skilss are SICK. When you get a chance, look him up.

I think the best overall announcer in the city is the guy who announces at hoops in the sun at orchard beach, Bobby Cey. Reason being because he’s probably the smartest and most intelligent out of all of them. Of course, he’s not the hype getting type like Boobie or A.G., but when it comes to stats and knowing the players’ background from high school to college to NBA to overseas, you can’t get no better than him. He’s even on MSG Summerball and they call him “MArv Albert of the Streets.” I just think he’s the best from top to bottom.

A new guy on the come up is the guy that worked with Bobby, Uncle G-Stacks. I just like how G-Stacks flows and plus he’s new. Don’t want to see the same announcer at every tournament. Plus i like his new catchphrase “Text message to the defender…”

Rucker Parks Boobie Smoove is the most entertaining. Ken Stevens in Dyckman Park is pretty good too! Ken gives Hot Nicknames.

Gotta bring a few more into mix. Big Brawls/Pro-City, Taz/Kingdome and Julio/Tri-State Classic. I’m eager to get up to Watson hear my man up there. I hear the tourney along with the Dogg Show are up and coming. Dyckman also has Ralph Pena.

  6. James says:

Bobby Cey, “The Marv Albert of the Streets” baby, hands down. Everyone else is a bunch of entertainer’s and don’t know the background behind the players and makes everything about themselves. It feels like I’m watching MSG or YES when he’s announcing. It’s good for streetball. He’s different from everyone else. That’s what NYC needs, more different things.

  7. jaquam says:

i gotta agree with James Bobby Cey is my favorite i can see him taking up a broadcasting job for ESPN seriously i think he can be up there with Mike breen ,tirico, and others but he would also sound great doing college games but on the other hand i give mad props to duke tango, AG Boobie smooth ken stevens, and others but i gotta throw in some from my own hood i forgot his name but if you ever come thru The gun hill tournament you will probably know what i’m taking about but if ya ever come thru UDC on 216 & barnes there’s a dude named Quest I know UDC is mostly a youth tournament but there is a college division too and he mostly does those games these two from my hood can be up there with the rest of them

  8. Sean Couch says:

Yo, Bobby Cey seems to be getting a whole lot of love… Friends, how many of us have them! Who-dee-Cey is getting ready. I remember Joe Cruz Jr. telling me that Bobby wanted to bring the indoor vibe outdoors to be different.

I think each park has a style, a voice and a sound. It would be hot to get a radio station rotation going from from park to park…sean@bouncemag.com

Thanks for the support, and look forward to working with you in the near future. Me, Gumby and Duke Tango is trying to form some type of union, like suboa with referees. I want to expand in all areas.

  12. Mike T. says:

Maybe a poll on the website or a write up of all announcers in the magazine about top announcers would be cool. Everyone can have their say, you know.

  13. Jeremiah says:

Best nickname out there right now is “Serious Satellite” Kenny Satterfield.

I saw “SERIOUS SAT IS WATCHING” on the back of the post back in August. That’s crazy. Probably one of the most creative nicknames ever, probably one of the best nicknames in streetball history. Find whoever gave him that name and give that guy two thumbs up like Siskel and Ebert.

  14. Bakar says:

Reg: I just copped a book about Bua’s artwork; and yeah, the painting does remind me of some of Justin’s pieces. Heard he’s in Cali now. Big up!

  15. Taz says:

I just want everyone to know where Serious Satt came from, it was a kingdome game and i was commentating, and kenny was going up against kareem reid, that summer his nickname was k-satt, i said “oh-no”, this guy is serius sattellite, and that name stuck with him… Thank you Jeremieh, and thanks to huncho and the kingdome family…

Taz is the up-and coming commentator, come see me at kingdome….
