Text Message to my man Christian from…Sean “Bub Hawkman” Couch

Yo, can Derek Rose do asphalt Uptown? The Memphis freshman went straight skillstat last night in his debut going for 17 pts, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. His vert and handles give him that all-surface look.

Is D.Rose ready for the heat of the Kingdome?

Would he give young boy Lance Stephenson treatment to Steph, Skip, Tinsley, Nate Rob, and Jamaal? Check “Born Ready” park stats:

EBC America 2006 MVP
Elite 24 2007 MVP

All-Surface my man. (BRB)… hadda take a call. That was Lance Stephenson, Kemba Walker, Corey Williams, Steve Burtt Jr., and Kareem Reid, telling me we got Bounce Covers and credentials to bake any young boy that dares set foot on the concrete Uptown … gotta love that…Check Bounce #13 Street Dogma “Wood vs. Asphalt” article for further deep thoughts…

So what’s all surface? Ya gotta have:
-the handles that give disruption to defenders
-that easy vertical that make rims look low
-the recklessly efficient drive that makes big men look little as you move their bodies underneath the basket for the buttercup
-the speed that punishes the slow in both-way transition
-dimes that give everyone free lunch lay-ups

(TTYL) wait….
Aiight.. I gotta give it flossary.

***ALL-SURFACE DEFINITION***

Chop handle, twisting buttercup board claps and reverse lay-ups, body-bump and-ones, smooth in-and-outs and cross-overs that lead to DIRECT CONNECTS that give PHONE TAP. I was thinking u might not know what i mean by phone tap; that’s a draft night call.

Yo, I was thinking about how Corey Williams made Allan Ray leave the park up at Orchard Beach at halftime. Was the ref in pocket? Hold up, I HEAR Corey e-mailing me with beef. (ROFLMB*O the B is for Butt instead of Ass, that’s an animal i respect). How bout Seattle’s J-Crawford and Nat Rob aka NBA NYK’s backcourt making everyone look real ordinary last year uptown in EBC America. NYC had Reem, Speedy, Skip, and Anti-Freeze. Who won? NYC who was Steph-less but Skiperienced. So tell me what u think.

Here’s my all-surface list - College/HS players with pro potential.

1. Derek Rose - Memphis University
2. Brandon Jennings - Oak Hill Academy
3. Lance Stephenson - Lincoln High School
4. Corey Fisher - Villanova
5. Kemba Walker - Rice High School
(TTYL)

You got Kemba ahead of Renardo Sidney? That kid is 6-10 and can literally do EVERYTHING on the court: handle, pass, rebound, score, drive and shoot from deep. His D ain’t all that, I’ll give you that, but he’ll be a Lottery pick. Kemba’s like a mid first round at best because of his size and shooting ability.

  2. Sean Couch says:

Big fellas on the playground sometime get lost in translation because of the ball handling factor, the double down, and the fact that they don’t get the ball like the guards do. Now the question is, Can big Renardo bring it up like Lamar Odom and get chop going forward like a smaller player aka Baron “To Easy” Davis? To his defense though, a reverseclap - (lay-up getting boarded) and drop step banger after an up and under are equally appreciated on the asphalt. Foot work and more footwork gives you the element that b-boys (not just dancers) thirst to see.

So we eagerly await Steve Nash, Kevin Durant and Renardo Sydney uptown…

Sean, thanks for bringing the ill playground analysis as usual. Chop handle! I love it!

As always J Wash we await your the next ep (Issue #14) as CEO of Bounce…from the playground.

    Sean/Jesse-

When you mention All-Surface ballplayers, I think of Wisconsin sophmore guard Trevon Hughes. He grew up in Queens, and the flavor he brings to the court is defnitely amazing and suprising. His inside hand change is amazing, and he’s lightning quick. Anyways, he went to a military school in Wisconsin, but I’ve heard that he went back to NYC to work on his game. If I could get in touch with him, would you guys be interested in writing a story on him or putting him on the cover ala Kemba? Bounce is always ahead of the curve and this dude is ready for a breakout season!

Hit me back with your thoughts-

    Jeremy

    Jeremy:

We’re always looking at the players who can skate with the rock on the playground and move the crowd. I haven’t had a chance to see Trevon play but if he comes home and puts the time up at either Dyckman, EBC or Pro-City and gives problems like Kemba did this summer we would have to give him a look.
