Corey “Homicide” Williams takes his extensive resume to Australia (photo courtesy K1X).
My man Brad from Handle Magazine (www.handlemag.com.au) alerted me that Corey “Homicide” Williams just signed with the Townsville Crocodiles (www.crocodiles.com.au/) of the Australian NBL (www.nbl.com.au/). The playground legend and NBDL Championship winning point (w/ the Dakota Wizards) will add this overseas journey to his others in Venezuela, China, Sweden, and France. In ‘07, the 6′3″ 30-year-old ran with the Denver Nuggets in the NBA’s Summer League in Vegas, and was named to our All-Street 2nd Team for what he did at Nike Pro City, HITS, and other NYC tournaments. Australia will definitely be a culture shock from playing in his hometown borough of the Bronx. Check out this blurb from the NBL press release:
“Williams is expected to arrive in Townsville on Friday to start training with the team and will sit on the bench at The Swamp on Saturday night when the Crocs suit up against the Brisbane Bullets.”
The Swamp? Good luck Corey! We’re rooting for you whereever you go! BX to the fullest!

Mr. Fasugadale (NSO) says:
so somebody at Bounce, answer this! WHEN Y’ALL GONNA GET OFF THAT NY ISH? I asked my couzo this (you know, your West Coast editor), but she act like she was born in Brooklyn even though she straight Town Biz!! I think y’all hypnotized her because who cares about NYC? every issue the same thing: New York New York New York. Stop it!!!!! If New York so dope, why every rapper from there sound like he from somewhere else now? Jay-Z too! 50 booty! who else y’all got? If New York so dope…why they scared to hoop in LA? Ask EBC that!!! If New York so dope, and this Bone Collector dude was so hot, why he was garbage at Drew this year? He got handles, but HIS GAME SUCKS. I saw it with my own eyes!!! He was on the Bounce cover talking about “Nobody Can Guard Me” G please! No one has to guard him because he ain’t doing nothing and running in circles! why guard him when he miss the layup anyway? Dribble all day, score NO WAY! He sucks, but guess what? You New Yorkers sure do love him!! Why? That’s still a mystery. So, again, I ask Bounce…when y’all gonna get off that NY ish? Charisse, don’t be mad. I just followed your advice and posted my feelings in the proper place cousin…It makes no sense in doing a Chitown issue BUT then advertise a New York player. That’s just disrespectful to the game!! Because New York been wack since Biggie went down. And you know I ain’t even lying!!!!!!!!!!! that’s why Lil Wayne run New York in 2008. Cuz y’all follow what everybody else does. so thanks for listening and STOP HATING. there is so much more to this world than NEW YORK CITY. I wish Bounce would recognize and stop acting like they down when the only down for whats good inside the five boros!

Bounce is playing themselves with that one. but i aint one to gossip, so you aint heard it from me. and next time, get some Detroit players on there cuz we ball for real out here!!
P.S. keep those sneaker pics though cuz everybody loves those no matter where you at!

'Town Biz says:
Did we not learn anything from the stupid East Coast-West Coast thing…in the words of B.I.G. what’s beef? Bounce is about ball not beef! but, cousin, I do respect yo gangsta!! Because i did tell you to post yo feelings but i never expected you to straight hooride & go dumb! I see the North Polar Bear in you don’t die, even though you did violate the code of NSO in moving to the land of the big bootsies (LA, LA). but anyway, for the record, I aint mad at you cousin. It actually made me smile cuz i know you just were trying to have fam’s back, NSO style. and yes, Brooklyn was (still is)my stomp!! but its O-A-K all day bay bay…Wrap the grapes and put yo stunna shades on to that, fasugadale!

Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love says:
Fasugadale-
you’re bugging. we do have a midwest player, nate minnoy, on the our cover #12, it’s just not up on teh site yet. and we have 16 pages commited to chicago this issue. and every magazine we’ve ever printed since 2003 has included stories of players, tournaments, parks, etc. including japan, london, LA, ATL, Paris, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Qatar, Seattle, etc. etc. etc. No other publication in the same time frame can claim as much coverage of area codes as we can.

Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love says:
i got cut off. in any event, i read that bone collector actually was awarded MVP of the drew league. and he’s not from nyc at all–he’s a product of Texas and LA. he only resided here for a couple of years to get his rep up . . . which brings me to the point of why bounce extensively covers new york. it is still unequivocally the mecca of playground basketball worldwide. our readers from every point on the map want to know what’s happening here, we see it in the letters. but we are not exclusive new york at all. i suggest you pick up our past issues by clicking on our online store at the top menu. you’ll be pleased.
as for mentioning the rap artists, that has nothing to do with our publication. you should write a letter to the source or vibe if you are concerned with that.
good lookin’ though, and shout out to risse’s fams where ever you are!

Jesse Washington says:
Fasugadale, I feel you, although you do have a little too much hot sauce on your plate right about now. We show much love to non-NYers…ask your boy Hook, he was on our second cover. Bobbito speaks the truth about all the Around the World we’ve played on our pages. Could we do more? Sure. Is Noo Yawk still the basketball mecca of the planet? Indeed. That’s why Kobe came to play here, A-I, Vince, the list goes on. Does Steve Burtt Jr. deserve to be on the cover? HE SCORED 68 AT RUCKER PARK. Does rap have anything to do with Bounce? Nah, mayne. And I have a challenge for you: Tell Cousin Risse who from the Town belongs in the Bid-ounce. If you can convince her, then I’m sold. Keep breathing that fire, homie.
Oh yeah: read my editor’s letter in the new issue. It says that right now, Chicago is the Number One Spot.
Oh double yeah: next time I’m out West, i’m gonna dunk on you.

Jeremy Ripley says:
Hey-
Fasugadale, though you admit you do in fact like the magazine, and you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, but Bounce has done a great job post issue one of exposing playground basketball culture outside of New York City. They had Oakland’s own Hook Mitchell on the cover jumping over a car before his documentary and Slam Streetball had a piece on him. Secondly, some of my favorite articles have been those outside of NYC. The Raw Lewis piece a few issues back was awesome, Bob has done a great job exposing Hoops4Hope Africa, and the Notic Crew from Canada has been covered heavily.
Even if Bounce only covered NYC events, could you blame them? I mean, as Bob touched on New York is the undisputed mecca and birthplace of playground basketball and rap. (and I know the West Coast with Too Short, Lady Rage, D.O.C., Soulz of Mischief, Snoop, and Heiroglypics have done lots for hip-hop) Every analytical piece I’ve read on the evolution of rap culture said it began with the creation of subsidized housing and high-rise aparment complexes. When the residents of the aformentioned buildings didn’t have enough cash, they started having their own disco parties, which eventually led to scratching, emcees, and a myriad of other things. Playground basketball was also strongly affected by the high rises and the city. Residents know there isn’t much room for football fields, soccer fields, or baseball diamonds. Park directors built playground courts because they were cost effective, didn’t take all that much to maintain, and could be built quickly. I’m not sure how prevalent housing complexes or projects are on the West Coast are, but really, I don’t think it can compare to NYC. I guess what I’m tyring to say through all this is that, it doesn’t hurt to accredit the originator, or write about things that people are still really interested in–The Rucker Pro AM, H.I.T.S., and Kingdome.
And don’t even get me started on the legends that the magical city holds on the asphalt. One of my favorites that actually pretains to the west coast L.A. Lakers is Joe Hammond turning down the professional team after hitting like 95 free throws in a row because he could make more on the streets. Kareem was begging for him to play I hear…haha.
-And the whole ‘hyphy’ thing is big out there?! Cool.

fasugadale says:
we don’t dunk balls out West JW…we dump bags. but that is just an OG talking. couzo told me you got a book called Black Will Shoot. When you need the real West Side, 101 Bay to LA late 80s truth, don’t see $hort, See me. Its funny how everyone wants to tell me about Hook and whatnot..you must have forgot My cousin wrote the story. Who you think she got the number from?? Again, that would be me. So while I might have nuff Crystal’s on my plate (that was actually funny), we smoke some good meat out west and we like our ‘que spicy right. stop smelling yourselves so much b/c much of what you speak about is bogus…but who really cares. It’s evident time and timea gain that many of you NYCers are just groupies. and thats why we talk the way we do about you…the difference btween us and you is that WE always come to your spot and bust ass…meanwhile, its very rare that New York teams come to the West or Midwest and do any damage. what does that say? It speaks for itself. I don’t need bounce to tell me that because I see it for myself every year.
So pleasebelieve there will be no dunking cuz in deep NSO b/c we shoot back out West. and if you really want some, come out to E87th if you can find your way. but we doubt it.
