Asphalt Phenoms is the best b-ball documentary to come out in a while. Filling the gap between the Joe Hammond era of the ’70s to the Skip To My Lou one of the mid ’90s, you’ll peep never-ever-seen-before footage of the old King Towers Tournament and park legends like “Master Rob,” Conrad “McNasty” McCrae, Derrick “Air” Canada, “Dancing Doogie,” Ron “Terminator” Matthias, and many more. This is the one to have in the shelves if you’re truly about knowing your history. Cop it at www.asphaltphenoms.com

Slam Nation is a choreographed dunking performance group out of France. Literally, and this is no diss to any high flyers in the world, but these dudes are the most creative, imaginative, well -rehearsed aerial assault crew ever. No dunk contest winner, NBA or ‘hood, would stand a chance against them. Yes. I said it. Led by 5′9″ Kadour Ziani, most of the members are barely 6 feet tall. You’ll find yourself rewinding, rewinding, pausing, being like, “Yo, did you peep that?” It’s real. Not memorex. For info visit: www.slamnation.net or www.kadourziani.fr

Folks do yourselves a favor and check out Asphalt Phenoms! The FIRST time I watched it gave me chills reminiscent to Michael Jordan’s Come Fly With Me which I used to religiously watch before all of my early High School games.
Btw, Bob, I don’t want to harp on your self-admitted “getting” old but Derrick Canada’s nickname is “Basic Instinct”. If you remember the East vs. West billboards and posters circa ‘95-6 it will serve as evidence. “Air Canada” is Toronto’s Vince Carter’s name before Kenny Smith lent Biz’ “Half Man, Half Amazing” to him on air.

Feets Malone-
I hear you, but the first year Derrick Canada played in the Ray Diaz Tournament on 101st St. circa ‘92, we was calling him ‘Air Canada’ on the sideline as he’d drop 40-45 every game. Vince wasn’t even on the map at that point. So that’s how i’ve always known him, hence why i wrote it like that. but thank you for the info!

Yeah, it’s me and I definitely appreciate the love. Been playing the sideline for a minute now, but I check the site daily to see what’s happening on the playgrounds of NY. I’m out in Milwaukee (since 2000) doing the family thing, but definitely missing the masses in the east. Nothing like hoops in NY and it’s all year round!
And yes, I’m still hoopin’

yo, this dvd has a story. it’s not just highlights to music or about a guy that was bigger than the game and drugs did him in. this is about a game that many play but few know “how to play”.
i suggest you get it and get it fast.

WOW!!! DC has graced the pages of bouncemag.com…BOB! In the illustrious words of X to the Z XZIBIT “You have been pimped” (pause) as I your collar gets popped!!!!!
and Bob, my humblest apologies! You educated me because I didn’t know about DC in Ray Diaz. I just figured you had a lapse since you kept talking about how your memory was failing you….but hey! I was wrong and thank you for enlightening me yet once again!
chosen623…..you couldn’t be any more correct. I got chills the first FOUR times I watched the DVD. Damn I love this game!
