Shooting Guard Rick Apodaca of Puerto Rico’s National Team has been wearing some K1X exclusives during the FIBA Americas Championships. The model is called the Strictly Business, and will be released in Puerto Rico and New York soon. Rick was also spotted in NYC this summer playing for Team K1X with Corey “Homicide” Williams in Kingdome (http://www.bouncemag.com/2007/07/30/boricua-on-the-set/). Peep www.k1x.com for more info.

a little history on Puerto Rico and sneakers . . .

when i played in the league out there in ‘87, all teams were officially sponsored by Converse and we got freebies. Our Olympic teams wore Converse for years, too, until the early 2000s when And 1 came in and outfitted the squad. that famous shot of carlos arroyo holding up the puerto rico logo on his jersey in 2004 when we beat the US–that was And 1 apparel. the first time a Puerto Rico flag appeared on a sneaker for sale however was circa 1999. Nike released a limited edition Air Force 1 to celebrate the Puerto Rican Day Parade here in New York. It was also only the second time a logo’ed AF1 was available at retail (the first was the NYC swoosh circa ‘94).

big ups to K1X for recognizing my country and Apodaca’s playing ability, though.

oh, and jesse–you’re bugging. apodaca got that shot off. i was watching the game . . .

Whut up! I’m from Poland and our domestic league was the first professional one where Rick went after he graduated from Hofstra. He was the rookie of the year and the mvp as well and his team (which debuted that season in 1st division) finished at 4th place. He’s a very talented and skillful playera. As well as a bunch of his homeboys that are taking our league by storm: Chris Dalmau was a part of a champion team Prokom Sopot for a couple of seasons, Andres Rodriguez 2nd year in a row will be the point guard at the 2nd team in the league Turow Zgorzelec and now Carlos Rivera is starting his pro career at Polonia Warsaw after he graduated from the same college as Rick. Big up to Bobbito, Rick and your country! Keep it real!

Ahhh.. looks like K1X is making moves on the DL, yo! They always come out with sick joints, and although I prefer Chiefgliders over SBs (remember when they released the Rucker and Bounce editions? Dope!), this PR joint looks sweet.
