Smush Parker working out with the Dyckman crew

Legendary Dyckman coach Mr. Jim Couch is hosting a series of free clinics at Fordham University Gymnasium. Every Monday and Wednesday from 12-2pm you can come to work on your game with some of the best instructors NYC has to offer, including Bounce’s own Sean Couch. Smush Parker was in the building Monday, drilling and filling up the hoops at his old stomping grounds. Mr. Couch and crew helped put some finishing touches on his game before he leaves for Miami.

I stopped by on Wednesday for some mentoring and met a couple of bright young men that traveled all the way from Delaware to mix it up at the famous workouts. James Pee and Vernon Robinson of William Penn HS made the trip with their varsity coach, Mike Sanford. James, who is headed to Harford CC in Maryland, was leading scorer on a playoff team that featured big time recruit Brian Oliver. Vernon, a junior, is trying to bring his game to the next level so that he can get the same free educational opportunities as his teammates. Both kids and their coach demonstrated great commitment to improving themselves, as well as accomplishing future goals, just by showing up.
