T-Shirt for SPC Basketball Camp
I can’t believe it’s been a week since I’ve been on here. I took some time away from the blog to work a couple of camps at my school and earn a little extra money to support my ridiculous sneaker habit. In the end, everything went copacetic.
I spent my days with 30 of the coolest little kids from the Jersey City/Bayonne area, teaching them individual skills and coaching them in a team concept. It was my third camp this summer, including one that took place at night back in June. The evening camp was a H.S. girls team camp that’s set up like a showcase for area schools. This year the roster included John F. Kennedy from the Bronx, my hometown, and a lot of other talented programs.
Know that BallGurl put on her best Pat Summit impression, leading my “Pro Level” squad to the camp’s NBA division championship. I had a very talented team that from day one played well together. In fact, the crew was so good they almost swept the final skill competitions. Members of “Pro Level” took the free throw, 1-on-1, and 3-on-3 contests. We fell short on Hot Shot, a spot shooting game. The Most Improved Player and Most Valuable Player awards went to two of my kids as well.
This was the second year I worked these camps. Last summer was a hit, so I decided to do it again when my coaches asked. It’s always gonna be fun for me because of how much I love bball. Joking with the kids and my teammates while playing all day is a part of what makes it so great. I’m definitely looking forward to next summer already.
Thanks to SPC Women’s Basketball, the Coaches Steph, Katie, and Tasha, and all the Peahens!!

welcome back, ballgurl! glad to hear the camp went well. seeing you write ‘hotshot’ brought back mad memories. it was a popular shooting contest in the ’80s, and the national winners would put’em up during halftime of NBA televised games. i took the Manhattan HotShot competition in ‘82. unfortunately i couldn’t attend the all-borough advance round cuz that’s right when i went away to attend Lower Merion HS outside of Philly.
when do i get to challenge ballgurl to a 3 point contest?
