Every Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm Mr. Couch’s Uptown Express Women’s League goes down on 130th St. and 5th Ave. Last weekend I checked the Nike sponsored house team, who by the end of the 4th quarter was up by 20+. Unfortunately, I’d put my camera away thinking the game was over, then . . . BAM! Former Broward County Junior College guard rolls on the floor while simultaneously doing a spin dribble (in video game terminology the “Slip ‘N Slide”). What?!!!

You always hear about how the women’s game is more fundamental than the men’s. Whatever. This was straight street, and the ladies are totally entitled to get funky with it, too. Zetta actually suits up from time to time for the Harlem Magic Masters traveling entertainment squad, so she definitely knows a thing or two about tricks.
Big shout out to Ms. Martin’s teammates “In the Mix” Maria, Malani Malik, Lakia, Adia, and the rest of the crew, as well as the announcer there who had me rolling with nicknames like, “Hillary without Bill,” “Mix Match Socks,” “Jumpshot Margie,” and “Robyn without her Batman!”

Haha!! I don’t think the public really understands that us ladies like to freak the bball handles too.
I’ve played with and watched a number of talented female ballers that are mcnasty when it comes to dribbling. Plus, on the playground and at bball camps, I’ve gotten crazy a little myself.
