In 1995, I ran with Coach Sid Jones United Brooklyn crew in West 4th (shirt above). It was like no other tournament, and i loved the experience. I grew up watching/admiring and playing with/against legends Clark and Mario Elie up at “Goat Park.” They were blood brothers who totally dominated “the Cage” on coach Bill Motley’s Harlem USA team which also featured former Chicago Bull “Sudden” Sam Worthen. The squad won something like 10 chips in a row, and that’s when West 4th was chock full of NBA dudes. Clark’s girlfriend was the backboard and he kissed her all the time. His younger brother Mario wound up going pro eventually and earned three rings with the Rockets and Spurs before he hung it up.
2007 marks the 30th year of the Men’s League. On Saturday, July 21, there’ll be an old-timers game @ 6pm with some of yesteryear’s players. Myself and Jack Ryan will hopefully be suiting up for the same squad. Shouts to Kenny Graham, Arizona, Blue, Jineea and the whole staff (and thanks for hooking me with the fly-ass shirt below, on sale @ the park for those interested).

holy chicken franks, carlito roc! my bad, i’ll change it now.
didn’t see you out there, but me and jack put on a show and led our squad to a W. it was mad fun to play there again. straight up i was nervous at first! i’ve played in front of 20,000, but ‘the cage’ just has so much history that you have to respect when you step up there.

Bobbito!!
The game was great…You and Jack did the thing and didn’t even need an oxygen mask or I.V. at the end. Haha!!
But West 4th is truly a historical place. I feel happy and blessed to be able to witness the history being made down in Lower Manhattan.
