Mike “The King of New York” Campbell
The 2007 Nike Pro City League (NY) jumped off last Thursday. Yesterday, we stopped by to see who was holding down the hardwood for the night. The 1st game had Nike “E” One taking on PDG Queensbridge. At the start of the third quarter, Nike “E” One was up big. The house team suited up a stacked roster that read like an all-star list—
Darren “DP” Phillips, Junie Sanders, Charles Jones, Mookie and Headache. That kind of firepower proved too much for QB, even with the “Working On 40” ability of Marcus Toney-El (former Seton Hall player). Nike and its many weapons got the W.
United Brooklyn, coached by the legendary Sid Jones, vs. X-Men closed the evening. This one stayed close for a long time but BK remained poised to earn the victory. Very solid guard play on their behalf seemed like the difference. In fact, one of the highlights of the night came from a young gun going by the nickname “Pee Wee.” He put the shake-n-bake on an X-Men guard that made him drop like a call in one of those Cingular commercials. The crowd loved it.
Mike Campbell and Corey Underwood went to work for their X-Men squad; too bad it wasn’t enough. To catch performances like these, hit up Hunter College @ 68th Street and Lexington Avenue on the 6 train line every Tuesday and Thursday. Game times are 6:30 and 8:30pm.
