The Gauchos are a staple of New York City basketball. The youth basketball organization was established in 1967 and has developed some of the top talent to come out of the metropolitan area since. Their pro roster boast guys like John Salley, Kenny Anderson, Mark Jackson, Chris Mullin, Pearl Washington, Jamal Mashburn, Rod Strickland, Felipe Lopez, and Stephon Marbury. In 1987 the set up permanent shop in the South Bronx. 478 Gerard Avenue is home to the Gaucho Gym where young players spend endless hours developing their games. The Choz gym was always was always a measuring stick to see where your game was at. I grew up in Jersey but traveled over the bridge regularly to play in the best tournaments the apple had to offer, IS8, Riverside Church, Kips Bay and Gauchos Roundball. As soon as you walked in the hot sweaty gym you knew you had to lace up and be prepared for war. It is only right that Nike paid homage to this legendary program. To Book and the rest of the crew in the South Bronx, keep rocking.

Why does everyone always list these guys as Alumni, when they played for numerous organizations? I’m just curious! You pay homage to a program started by someone who does not so nice things to children. That sounds like NIKE! That’s y I don’t buy there garbage.

PR says:
We list those guys as alumni because when we ask them what program they’re from they say Gauchos. As for the NIKE comment… Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t.
