HITS Youth Spring League 2007 Champs–B-Ballers
This weekend in New York was bananas! A nice prelude to the upcoming summer season which kicks off next week.
Rickey Rivers’ Fireball league capped off with coach Sid Jones’ United Brooklyn squad, featuring NY Knicks Nate Robinson, grabbing the chip. Earlier this Spring, Nate “The Great” a.k.a. “Nate Ninja” (my own creation with an assist from Couch) broke the regular season single game scoring record with 51. This is not a burger league, either, so recognize. The finals also had NY Knick Renaldo Balkman repping Team NYAC on the floor, who got lectured for 2 halves by our favorite smooth-talker John “Franchise” Strickland. Shout out to Horse on the mic, and the whole Funsport/Jumpball staff. More info and photos by the end of the week.
Joe and Randy Cruz’s Hoops In The Sun debut Spring League jumped off to a real solid start. In the Youth Division, the B-Ballers went undefeated for the whole season including the chip (they also won the summer ‘06 title). In the Men’s division, the Court Masters took numero uno against Enterprise from Illadelph, PA (led by the regular season MVP Charles Bostic a.k.a “The Matrix” who averaged 24 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals). Both Court Masters and B-Ballers receive an automatic bid in the HITS summer league @ Orchard Beach which kicks off Saturday June 16th. On the 17th, there will be a court dedication to Joe “Pops” Cruz (RIP). He was a father figure to many of us. I’ll definitely be up there for that. For more info peep: www.hoopsinthesun.net.
Mad more to report, but have to run to a game at the Nike NRF league. Check out their site: http://www.nikerecessfederation.com/. I’m leading the league in assists and 3 pointers, plus won the All-Star Game 3 point contest. Bounce represent!

Yo, I have to put the fax out on this one. Me, Mike, and PR were dying in the stands. After United Brooklyn won they were announcing everyone individually to come out and get there gift bag & trophy. After you got your stuff the team was at half court to take a picture. Strick was the last one to be announced. Right as he was about to trot to half court Horse’s mic went out. Why did Strick wait on the bench, bag in hand, till he ran out to mid court. Bob, no joke he waited for about 2 minutes. It might have been the funniest ish of the summer. Only Strick.
